Here's a virtual movie of Federico Garcia Lorca reading his beautiful 1935 Lament to his friend a Bullfighter Ignacio Sánchez Mejías "Llanto por la muerte de Ignacio Sánchez Mejías". Ignacio Sánchez Mejías (June 6, 1891, Seville—August 13, 1934, Madrid) was a famous Spanish bullfighter.[1][2] He was also a writer. He enjoyed enormous popularity — he was attractive to women, admired by men, and a sympathetic personality to artists, especially those of the Generación del 27. When he died after a goring (cornada) in the Plaza of Manzanares, he was memorialized by Miguel Hernández, Rafael Alberti and other famous poets, but probably the best of these works is Federico García Lorca's "Llanto por la muerte de Ignacio Sánchez Mejías" ("Weeping for the Death of Ignacio Sánchez Mejías"),[3] for many the best Spanish elegy since the Coplas of Jorge Manrique. Lament for Ignacio Sanchez Mejias is a poetic work of poet Spanish Federico García Lorca , published in 1935 . It is a set of four elegies that Lorca wrote to his friend Ignacio Sanchez Mejias , great bullfighter , writer and prominent member of the Generation of '27 , died of gangrene in 1934 because of a goring in place of Manzanares by the bull Grenadian . The term generation of 27 is known to a number of poets Spanish the twentieth century that was unveiled at the cultural landscape around the year 1927 , one starting with a tribute to Luis de Gongora held in that year at the Ateneo de Sevilla by the tercentenary of his death and in which participated most usually considered members. Federico del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús García Lorca[1] (Spanish pronunciation: [feðeˈɾiko ɣarˈθi.a ˈlorka]; 5 June 1898 -- 19 August 1936) was a Spanish poet, dramatist and theatre director. García Lorca achieved international recognition as an emblematic member of the Generation of '27. He was executed by Nationalist forces during the Spanish Civil War.[2][3][4] In 2008, a Spanish judge opened an investigation into Lorca's death. The García Lorca family eventually dropped objections to the excavation of a potential gravesite near Alfacar. However, no human remains were found.
