This is my new upbeat version of the Moody Blues' brilliant song from the 1960's "Nights in White Satin". I was strumming the guitar one evening and came across two chords which went well together. I was playing in 4/4 time signature with an upbeat tempo. Then I realised I recognised those two chords. Nights in White Satin by Moody Blues. Could I do a version of this song I wondered. Then, by chance, I found a recording on YouTube of just the vocals that had been stripped from the original. I had to do it. I remember once Justin Hayward commenting on a new classical version of this song being released and how it sounded so different with a full orchestra instead of a Mellotron. That got me thinking that I will do a version that has both Mellotron and a full orchestra (in this case a fully sampled BBC Symphony Orchestra). I am very pleased with the way it has come out. The song starts with the guitar chords then Justin comes in with a Mellotron (sample). Mid way the Mellotron is ditched and a real flute starts the middle section with the full orchestra which builds in energy until it finishes with a choir singing too. The last section is the same as the first but with orchestra and choir instead of the Mellotron. All instruments played by me. Recorded at the Fort, Cornwall UK. I hope you enjoy it.
