APOLLO ATHLETICS- soft, sort of similar to Cramer, top brand 50. Vulcan - arrives broken 90% of the time and texture is a little inconsistent, but I enjoy regardless, top brand, excellent customer service. Crushed 2 blocks to show differences in textures. *So here’s the thing, not to burst anyone’s bubble if you don’t already realize this, but there are essentially only a handful or 2 of gym chalk manufacturers in the world - majority in China and Taiwan as that is where it is mined - and athletic companies buy the chalk in bulk, slap their names on the blocks and boxes and sell it as their own for profit. There are very few companies actually manufacturing their own chalk. There are a couple, but it’s not the norm. This is why the texture of your favorite brand can change. As with any business model they buy low and sell higher to make a profit. When they are out of one stock they shop around for an affordable next stock to sell. So that sometimes means the texture changes. Side note: you can also buy your chalk in bulk. It ends up being cheaper in the long run and worth it if you have the space to store it. *All that to say - there might be 75 brands of chalk tested here, but there aren’t 75 textures of chalk if that makes sense. Many of these are from the same manufacturer- they just have different company names on them. The most easy to see is the white plastic wrapper with the blue Magnesium Carbonate label on it that those of us in the community recognize as Z Athletic. It’s a generic chalk and many companies buy it and sell it as their brand. So you will see that packaging in these videos quite a bit as it’s more recognizable than the white paper wrapper. *Here is some info about the descriptions I give: *Creamy generally means the chalk contains rosin which is a sticky additive to help improve grip. Some chalks I know contain rosin from looking at the manufacturers MSDS - material safety data sheets and some I am assuming based on the texture being comparable to brands I know contain it. *Dry means it is not creamy or does not contain rosin. It dries my hands out quicker and feels “rougher” in texture. *Sandy or “Prosource like” means to me it feels like there is sand in the chalk. It is a silica additive and I am not a fan of it, but when used in chalk it’s usually very soft and powdery. I say Prosource like because it’s a brand that I feel most people in the community are familiar with and understand what I mean when I describe texture like Prosource. *Typical plastic wrapper I use to describe chalks that come in the white plastic wrapper because they mostly all feel very similar if not the same (because they are the same). *Top or favorite brand means it’s a brand I prefer and use often. I do not have one favorite brand *Other words I use are soft, medium, firm and extra firm which I think are self explanatory as well as crispy and glassy. All opinions are my own and I was not influenced or compensated by any of the brands mentioned in these videos.
