Our Instagram: / kenzoandmayko I struggled to draw clothing so I tried the 7 fold types but that didn't work. Even though they do summarise how clothing tends to fold, I could never get the hang of using them. I needed something based on principles rather than memorising a formula. The 7 folds didn't help me see how to simplify and clarify what I was seeing, and instead I'd be trying to force a memorised fold type onto what I was seeing. Once I started trying to understand what causes clothing folds, it really came down to a few very simple ideas, and then I could just draw those ideas. Some of the ideas in this video almost feel too simple and obvious to say, but it was only once I brought these ideas to the front of my mind that I could start drawing clothes well. 0:00 7 folds didn't work 1:07 Clothes are tubes 2:20 Why clothes fold 3:30 Folds are tubes too 5:30 Fold directions 9:30 Example 2 12:55 Tension points 14:33 Example 3 20:05 Practise seeing these ideas
