In Episode 12, Guitar Center CEO Gabe Dalporto becomes a guest on his own podcast as Guitar Center Senior Manager, Content and Social Media Max Lauer-Bader interviews him about the initial 11 episodes of Inside the Noise. GABE DALPORTO ON JOINING GUITAR CENTER “Guitar Center is this iconic brand, and I feel very fortunate to be part of it. But, over the years, we had lost our way a little bit and our customers were kind of frustrated with us. So, for my first several months, I was out talking to customers, asking them what they want Guitar Center to be, what made us amazing and what do we need to do to be amazing again. I took all of that feedback, turned it into a strategy and started to roll it out. Retail is very simple. You listen to your customers and make them happy. But it was a lot of work, because we had to learn to make our customers feel welcome again.” GABE DALPORTO ON INDUSTRY LEADERS AND PERSEVERANCE “Talking to someone like Paul Reed Smith—there’s not a bigger guitar nerd in the world. He is so deep down into every little detail, and that level of just ridiculous obsession is what it takes to make something amazing. You know, business is really hard, and every company that has ever been started has had a life-or-death experience at some point in their journey. In the ’70s and early ’80s, Martin Guitars was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. Paul Reed Smith couldn’t get anyone to give him money to get started. Everybody goes through these kinds of challenges, and perseverance, I think, is key. The reason all these iconic companies are still here is because they are unwilling to give up and unwilling to fail.” GABE DALPORTO ON BEING PART OF THE COMMUNITY OF MUSICIANS “Musicians struggle. It's hard to make a living as a musician, and I think we want to be the glue in that community. We want people feeling comfortable coming to Guitar Center—hanging out, meeting other people and playing. Just come in, have a good time and be part of the community.” Follow Guitar Center: / guitarcenter #musicpodcast #insidethenoise #guitarcenter #gabedalporto Chapters 00:00 - Inside the Noise Season 1 Wrap: Gabe Dalporto’s Takeaways 00:11 - Role Reversal: Max Interviews Gabe (Season Finale Setup) 00:49 - Rebuilding Guitar Center: Listening Tour + Customer-First Strategy 02:18 - What Changed in Stores: From Shrinking Sales to Growth 03:16 - “Unlock the Guitars”: Making It Easier to Play in Store 04:13 - Visiting Legendary Makers: PRS, Martin + D’Addario Factory Tours 07:34 - Paul Reed Smith’s Obsession With Detail (And Why It Matters) 08:39 - Leadership Lesson: Perseverance Through “Life or Death” Moments 10:36 - Behind Every Brand: The Humans, Stories, and Legacy 11:26 - Dream Factory Job: Custom Shop Craftsmanship End-to-End 13:12 - Subscribe Break + Season 2 Tease 13:36 - Artist Takeaways: Kenny Aronoff, Chad Smith + Blu DeTiger 14:34 - Kenny Aronoff’s Mindset: Fired, Worked for Free, Got Better 16:34 - Adapting to Tech: Drum Machines and Staying Ahead 17:07 - Chad Smith’s Audition Story: Being Yourself Under Pressure 18:13 - Blu DeTiger’s Story: From Guitar Center Kid to Signature Bass 20:19 - Innovators & Disruptors: Marcus Ryle + David Kalt 23:41 - Building a Better Music Community 26:17 - Gabe’s Final Takeaways: Take Care of Customers, Stay Humble + Hungry
