If you're planning to ride the iconic red double-decker buses in London, it's important to know that cash is not accepted. You'll need to have an Oyster card, Travelcard, or contactless payment card to pay for your ride. A single bus fare costs £1.75 and if you plan to travel by bus all day, the maximum you'll need to pay is £5.25. One of the best things about riding the bus in London is that you can transfer to other buses or trams for free and as many times as you need to within an hour of touching in for your first journey. This means that you can easily explore different parts of the city without worrying about the cost of transportation. It's also worth noting that all of the bus routes are served by low-floor vehicles with a dedicated space for one wheelchair user and an access ramp. If you require assistance, the driver or fellow passengers will be happy to help you. Buses can also be lowered to reduce the step-up from the pavement. Finally, it's common for Londoners to show their appreciation to the bus driver when alighting from a bus. A simple “thank you driver.” To use a London Bus properly, follow these guidelines: 1. Plan your route: Find out which bus route you need to take to reach your destination by using Transport for London's website or mobile app. 2. Wait at the Bus Stop: Wait at the designated bus stop for your bus to arrive. Make sure you are standing in the right place with the bus number and route displayed on the signs. 3. Board the bus: Once the bus arrives, enter through the front door and touch in with your Oyster Card, contactless payment method. London buses are card only, so you cannot buy a ticket with cash. Use a Visitor Oyster card*, an Oyster card, a Travelcard or a contactless payment card to pay your fare. 4. Find a seat or stand: Look for a seat or a standing space and avoid taking priority seats that are reserved for elderly, pregnant, or disabled passengers. Do not put feet on the seats otherwise damage the bus. 5. Respect others: Be mindful of other passengers by not playing music loudly, eating or drinking, except for water, on the bus, or talking loudly on your phone. 6. Signal for your stop: When approaching your stop, press the bell or pull the cord to signal the driver to stop. 7. Exit the bus: Leave the bus through the middle or back doors and watch out for other pedestrians. By following these steps, you can use London buses properly while ensuring a comfortable and safe ride for yourself and other passengers. Thanks for watching my video!
