The Yoik of Melbourne

This yoik came to being 17th of August 2017. It is my present to the city of Melbourne. Yoiks are the ancient chanting - the oldest one living in an unbroken tradition the songs of my people - the Sámi People. We live in the northernmost part of the European mainland, populating the northern part of Norway, Sweden and Finland as well as the north western part of Russia. We have managed to preserve the art of yoiking despite that both the church and the national states have tried to make yoiks as well as other parts of our culture to disapear, but here we are. And we are still able to hand out yoiks as presents. The yoik of Melbourne is inspired both by the soundscape of the city as well as the skyline, how it is shaped and the neighbourhood to the Yara river. This yoik has a little poem. By the mouth of the river Yara there is city with a beautiful skyline. The easiest thing in the world is be the best city to live in. Why should one be among mountains and hills when it is convient to be in the flat. The location is borrowed from the aboriginees who has populated this place since long long long time. And from Now on we can yoik Melbourne city.
