This video is taken from QUT Library's 'Study Smart: information research and literacy skills' tutorial. Module 2.1 The Information Searching Lifecycle http://studysmart.library.qut.edu.au/... Transcript: The Information Searching Lifecycle shows the steps involved to maximise your efficiency and effectiveness in searching for new information. The lifecycle begins when you analyse your topic for the main concepts and you identify your topic keywords. Next, you need to build your search strategy using search techniques - expanding your main concepts and keywords with synonyms. The next step is to choose which tool or tools is appropriate for your needs. Remember, you may need to use more than one tool. Run your search and evaluate your results. Do you have too many and need to be more specific? Too few? Are the results irrelevant for your topic? The Information Searching lifecycle repeats the evaluation and refining step as many times as necessary. This allows you to refine and adapt your search strategy until your search produces what you are looking for. Part of the lifecycle is to read your results and take notes to ensure you have all the main topics and concepts covered. What you learn can the provide a new set of topic keywords to begin the cycle again -in the same, or perhaps a different, search tool. As we move through the Study Smart modules you will learn how to complete each step.
