After design taught me how we are more similar than different, that surviving is good but thriving is a better decision and that death is part of a natural cycle, creating “better futures” (unchaining the future) starts in the present moment, with a sense of arrival to it, and showing up to life without judgement or expectations. Acknowledging what was here before, aka doing the research of our past is the step two for any meaningful intervention. Asking good questions and learning to listen to the answers will allow each of our vision to unfold. The potential of our “better future” resides in those answers that emerge. Will you claim the space for your vision? What is the next step you must do to get closer to that vision? Create community, don’t just survive, thrive! Boroka is a Hong Kong-based interior designer and thinker, former fashion model and global citizen, with a multidisciplinary educational background in art and design, economy and the social sciences. She has got her BFA in interior design from The Savannah College of Art and Design, and currently pursuing her postgraduate degree in Urban Environment Design from the School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. After a brief experience in hospitality, retail, and exhibition design, she decided to dive deeper into studying space as a shared human condition with the aim to build design narratives that empower and enrich people’s lives. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
