As a rookie, Andy fell hard for Sam's swagger and confidence. As time grew on, his closed-off emotions and cynicism began to crush her open and optimistic nature and their partnership fell apart. For a long time afterwards Andy clung to the hope that she and Sam could get back together but he eventually moved on with Marlo. Needing to get away, Andy went on an undercover mission with Nick. Whilst undercover as boyfriend and girlfriend, Nick developed a real crush on Andy. Nick suppressed his emotions for Andy to continue in his relationship with Gail. However, Gail sensed that he had grown very close to Andy and this brought a bitter note to their relationship. Out of jealousy, Gail slept with another police officer leading Nick to break up with her. Both now single, Andy and Nick became inseparable and together developed a light-hearted happiness that neither of them had experienced in their previous relationships. As much fun as they have together, it soon becomes clear that Andy is still not over Sam.
