Gerard Hoffnung - A Grand, Grand Overture - Last Night of the Proms 2009 Royal Festival Hall

This is a re-enactment of one of Gerard Hoffnung's brilliant symphony parodies originally performed in the Royal Festival Hall on November 13, 1956, issued on his album "The Hoffnung Music Festival Concert". This symphony was composed by Malcolm Arnold. The performance on the record is hilarious, but you cannot see all the crazy stuff that was done that is visible in the re-enactment. Various floor polishers, vacuum cleaners, and other domestic machinery is played with the utmost professional precision. Hoffnung set the standard for symphonic humor, which PDQ Bach attempted to recreate in the 1960's but was nowhere near as good in my humble opinion. I am not monetizing this video with advertising. I am posting it under fair use to document one of the finest historical moments in classical history that took place 57 years ago, and do not claim copyright.
