We had the privilege of spending two nights there in mid-October 2024, right at the end of a very dry season, making it the perfect timing for game viewing. The Lala Limpopo Sleepout Hide is an underground photography hide with two bedrooms (each with two single beds), a kitchen, and a bathroom, as well as a day bed and comfortable seating for at least four photographers. It overlooks a man-made waterhole in the south-central region of Mashatu Game Reserve and faces north. The waterhole is lit up at night by a series of moveable lights that can also be remotely controlled, allowing you to switch them on or off, or to change their intensity. This allows photographers to get some really dramatic studio-type photos of everything that comes down to drink throughout the night. Visitors to the hide also get to spend the late afternoon and early morning in the hide, allowing you to get the best of both daytime and nighttime photographic opportunities. And as you'll see from this video, we had some incredible experiences at the Lala Limpopo Sleepout Hide in our 48 hour-period!
