12/01 Casting Aluminum

I couldn't wait 2 more weeks for my spindle mounts to arrive so I cast one myself. I have a large furnace outside with a 1 gallon crucible but this was a small job so I used my little crucible in the shop fireplace. I should have cleaned all the slag out of the bottom on the crucible first so I didn't end up with as much good metal as I thought but it was just enough to overflow the molds and they seem to look pretty solid so far. We'll see how it goes when I start machining them into finished parts.
