How To Make Wavy Planks For Horse Jumps

Sometimes it is fun to make different components for your horse jumps, so in this video I will show you how you can make wavy planks for your own jumps. They are a little more challenging to make than regular planks, but if you are looking for something different and creative, this would be an excellent addition for your jumps. I got the idea to make these after going to watch some jumper classes at The Colorado Horse Park this summer, and I wanted to have some wavy planks for my own. All you will need is a couple of 2x6" boards, all of my jumps are 8 foot wide, so I used 8 foot long lumber. And then you make a wavy line on the top and bottom of the board. Also measure where your planks will rest in the jump cups. I measured mine 6" long, and 3" from top to bottom. This will give plenty of room for the plank to rest in the cup. Then take a drill, and start drilling holes along your wavy line. It will look like a dotted line. You will do this for every 'wave' of your line. Once you have drilled your dotted line, then you will use a jigsaw to cut out that wood. Be careful with this part! Once you have cut out all of the waves, then it is time to sand it. The sanding is a very important part to get the wood smooth, it will look better once it is painted. Then paint a coat of primer on the boards, I use Kilz 2. And once your primer is dry, paint your planks any color you like, and then your wavy planks are ready to use!
