Intaglio Diptych Self-Portrait Printed on 24k Gold Leaf

I get a lot of questions asking if I can go through the process of how I created this print. I decided to recut the documentary as a more complete version showing the paper with the gold leaf already applied. The paper is "editioned" first using a template for the gold leaf. Once the gold leaf is applied using gold leaf size, I let it dry for a few days before resoaking. The self-portraits were created using a combination of intaglio techniques (as is the case with most of my work). I used hard ground etching, aquatint, drypoint, and lots of burnishing to complete the print. In the printing process you'll notice that I wipe the whole portrait, then go back in and add a second warmer ink on top using an A' la Poupe'e method that gives me a better range and depth of color.
