I have had it pointed out to me that it is not just the old bees that leave in the swarm and there is a mixture of ages. When I say during the video the swarm is the old queen and the old bees I should have said that the swarm is the old queen with a mixture of old and young bees. Work is still ongoing as to exactly what the split is but I am grateful to Clare Densley for pointing this out to me. The great thing about beekeeping is that we are all constantly learning.
