West Indian Day Parade Carnival

The Annual West Indian American Day Parade on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, NYC. The Parade is held yearly on Labor Day and it is also known as the Labor Day Parade. The Parade is roughly two-mile and it starts at Utica Avenue and end at the Brooklyn Museum. The West Indian Day Parade Carnival is a week long event that starts on Thursday with a Dancehall music fest and then a Soca Fest Music Festival the following day. On Saturday there is a Junior Carnival for the kids and a Panorama Steel Band competition and both events are held on the grounds of the Brooklyn Museum. Then on Sunday Night there is Dimanche Gras (Great Sunday) which leads into J’Overt (daybreak) which is a pre-dawn street party and the traditional start of the West Indian American Day Carnival. When you hear people say that they are going to the “Parkway” on Labor Day, that means that they are going to the West Indian Day Parade.
