SOMEDAY is my happy song of hope written after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. Directly impacted, losing family members, temporarily living in a city we never planned to live in, nervously enrolling our children in schools we had no prior knowledge of, and having to go back and forth, crossing state lines, between Texas and Louisiana while repairing our house, would have drawn me into a state of deep depression if not reminded of the blessings directly in front of me my life, my family, more than enough provision for the moment we were in, and all of my loved ones who had survived. As a Restaurant General Manager at the time of Hurricane Katrina, the restaurant my husband served was damaged in the storm and would go on to close for good in December 2005. Unsure about what was next for our family, my Heavenly Father, the Most High, reminded me that He is everywhere, and He is always with us. Ultimately, He reminded me that in everything and every situation, I am to give thanks because there’s ALWAYS something to be grateful for. SOMEDAY was written in addition to several other songs that poured out of me during that time to help compile and release “The Let Love Rule” project, recorded in Dallas, TX., and New Orleans during our displacement. The album features several artists, including one of my former music teachers, a man I greatly appreciated and admired, Mr. Ellis Marsalis Jr., who passed on in 2020. The instrumental track for SOMEDAY, and most of the album’s tracks, was arranged by one of the most brilliant musicians I’ve ever worked with, Shaun Martin, who took his final rest in 2024. With the coming 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, I wanted to make a SOMEDAY music video to commemorate and display what helped us get through one of the most difficult times of our lives. This video gives a glimpse of what I enjoy and appreciate most in life, spending time with loved ones. Most of us in this video went through the devastation and aftermath of that storm together, and by the Most High God’s grace, we’re still here. To Shaun and Mr. Marsalis
