However, low vision still does not necessarily mean legal blindness. As explained by Dr. Matthew Palmer, O.D., low vision is when there has been a disease that has caused the eye not to develop correctly or when there has been an incident that prohibits one's vision from being able to be corrected with corrective lenses. Having low vision makes it difficult for a person to do daily tasks such as watching television, driving, reading, and writing. Low vision cannot be corrected by the use of contact lenses or eyeglasses, but people with low vision need not lose hope. There are certain ways to deal with low vision.
