Medical emergencies can, do and will happen in dental offices. As more medically compromised patients present for dental treatment, a crisis situation can - and likely will - occur at some time in your practice. As dentists, we’re offering more advanced and involved treatments to our patients, and regularly injecting local anesthesia for pain control, which alters patients physiologically. As medical advances continue, and the amounts and kinds of medications consumed increases, the population ages, and health-related issues rise. We cannot ignore the fact that these factors make a medical emergency in our offices more likely Medical emergencies can be stressful and chaotic for the entire dental team. Stress leads to Panic which in turn leads to forgetting simple life-saving skills. This could ultimately lead to the loss of life of a patient which none of us wants. Managing a Medical Emergency is challenging given their high acuity, low frequency and increased complexity. With training conducted in accordance with this program, your dental team will lock into muscle memory the knowledge and skills needed to effectively handle a critical medical emergency. As a result of conducting experiential, hands-on training, your dental team will be able to recognize and respond to critical medical emergencies. Emphasis will be placed on preparing the dental team to minimize the impact of such an event. This program is ideal for the entire dental team to attend together. By doing so, dental teams can be patient-rescue ready. Competency and confidence are necessary to manage a medical emergency. Successfully managing a medical emergency is significantly different from knowing about medical emergencies. Remember: Your dental practice is either Medical Emergency Prepared or Unprepared! Your level of training will determine which!
