Night attack by stray leopard leaves residents of Mbaruk village in Gilgil in fear

Residents of Mbaruk village in Gilgil are living in fear after a stray leopard reigned terror on them leaving behind a trail of destruction under the cover of darkness. The residents woke up to a rude shock after they found their animals killed and others injured by the big cat suspected to have sneaked out of the neighbouring expansive Soysambu conservancy. Peter Karanja, one of the affected farmers narrated how he narrowly escaped from getting into the claws of the leopard minutes after he noticed unusual behaviour among his dogs. Karanja and his family made noise in an attempt to scare away the feline which drove away dogs from the compound and continued to roam around a shed where he had locked his livestock. The leopard later moved through several other homes whose owners remained helpless after learning about the attack on Karanja’s home. Speaking to The Standard, KWS Central Rift Assistant Director Dickson Ritan said that they were yet to confirm if the suspected animal was actually a leopard but it was being traced with traps mounted in the village.
