Traditional Turkish baked rice pudding, known as Fırın Sütlaç. Creamy, lightly caramelized on top and incredibly easy to make at home. A classic Turkish dessert loved by everyone. Ingredients • 1 liter milk • 1 cup sugar • ½ cup rice • 2 cups water (400 ml) • 1 packet vanilla • 3 tablespoons starch • ½ cup water (100 ml) (for dissolving the starch) Instructions Place the washed rice into a suitable pot and add 2 cups of water. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the rice absorbs all the water and becomes soft. Add 1 liter of milk and the vanilla to the cooked rice, then stir well. Let the mixture boil for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix the starch with ½ cup of water until smooth. Slowly add the starch mixture to the pot, stirring continuously, and cook until the pudding thickens.Add 1 cup of granulated sugar and the starch-water mixture to the boiling rice. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens. After about 10 minutes, the rice pudding will reach the desired consistency. Pour the pudding into oven-safe serving bowls, then place them on a baking tray. Before baking, add water to the tray until it reaches about halfway up the sides of the bowls. Place the tray on the upper rack of the oven and bake at 180°C (356°F) until the tops are nicely browned. Once browned, remove the rice puddings from the oven. Let them cool at room temperature for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a separate tray. Refrigerate to rest and set. After 2–3 hours in the refrigerator, the dessert is ready to serve. You may garnish with hazelnuts, pistachios, or almonds as desired.
