I tried out three different clarinets and wanted to share my thoughts on each of them. Selmer Présence Bb-Clarinet black: full, centered tone, clear articulation, difficulty with legato in the upper register, a bit inflexible with register changes. P.Mauriat ERA-521(S) Bb-Clarinet: easy articulation, tone is bright and straightforward, without any special characteristics, staccato is okay, some issues with intonation (perhaps needing a different mouthpiece), quality seems to be okay. SeleS by Selmer Prologue Bb-Clarinet Eb-lever: very pleasant playing feel (similar to Selmer Privilege clarinet, predecessor model), beautiful classical tone, bright but compact and focused, good staccato, good intonation, E-flat lever. Personally, my favorite (very good price-performance ratio). That is all my subjective opinion. Of course, everything is individual and depends on the anatomical peculiarities of the musician. Additionally, it is extremely important to find the right combination of mouthpiece, reed, and ligature for the instrument.
