Having started playing trombone at the age of 9, Sam instantly discovered Ann affinity for the instrument. While still in high school, Sam joined the 287th Army Band in Wilmington, Delaware - his first professional gig. It was during his training at the Army School of Music, under the instruction of Phil Bleinberger that his love for jazz and commercial music was solidified. Throughout his already decade-long career with the army band, Sam has played in and led NOLA-style brass bands, jazz combos, big bands, brass quintets and ensembles, commercial bands, concert bands, and ceremonial marching bands. Sam’s time spent with the army band has helped him develop and build on fundamentals of performing, which he uses today to tell a powerful, captivating story every time he picks up the horn. Sam holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from Temple University, where he studied with numerous jazz legends such as Mark Patterson, Luis Bonilla, Tim Warfield, Ben Schachter, Terell Stafford, and John Swana. His time in Philadelphia has also afforded him the opportunity to play alongside numerous acts and artists, including Larry McKenna, Pizzle and the Sizzle Sisters, and Swift Technique, to name a few. Sam has also been a full-time member of Philadelphia's legendary, award-winning wedding band, Jellyroll. Sam is currently pursuing his Master of Music in Jazz Performance at the University of Texas at Austin.
