My neighbor had an engine failure in his 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. I believe the engine had around 80,000 miles on it when the issue originated. There was no warranty, so he had the engine replaced on his own dime, and he wanted me to tear it down and find where the failure is. This first video covers some of the electrical harnesses, the upper intake manifold, and rear valve cover removal. The video quality isn't wonderful because it's taken on my older phone. I made some edits to the clips, and somehow the first clip that covered part of the harness on the rear valve cover went missing and could not be recovered. I tried to include all of the wiring connector removal for the rest of the harnesses on the engine I needed to remove. I am a former diesel technician, and have some experience with engines, so I was interested to see what happened. We aren't sure if the engine will be repairable in the long run, but I think it's worth having a look at what occurred. A friend who works at a Kia/Hyundai dealer mentioned sometimes it's just camshafts and sprockets (phasers?) that cause the dreaded rattle. Because of his input, that is where I am going to start.
