Matthew's claim that Jesus being called a Nazarene fulfilled a prophecy can seem a bit troublesome at first blush, since there is no mention of Nazareth in the Old Testament. However, as a summation of the consistent messaging across the prophets, this statement contains powerful interpretations of Jesus's lineage and of the nature of the the world's relationship to God.
