PERI ANAL ABSCESS: 1. What is a perianal abscess? Peri anal abscess is infection and pus formation around the anal region. 2. Why and how does this form? Peri anal abscess ( pus formation) happens due to Infection of the anal glands surrounding the anal canal. The glands reside between the anal sphincters ( two rings of muscle surrounding the anal canal and helping to maintain the tone and continence of the anal canal). The glands open into the anal canal.Infection of the anal glands leads to pus formation and this is called as peri anal abscess. 3. what are the symptoms? Pain in the anal region Swelling in the anal region The abscess may burst open and start discharging pus Fever Abdominal pain, if the pus bursts open into the abdomen Blakish discoloration due to gangrene in extreme cases, Sepsis, hypotension and organ failure in extreme cases
