Here Mallory sings one of our favorites from our Irish Repertoire. Percy French died a hundred plus years ago but is still beloved in Ireland and beyond. Quite the character, he toured with his act, painted pictures that are still in demand today, composed delightful songs and poems, and strummed the banjo. Hours were spent trying to Google suitable images to illustrate this song with mixed success. More hours were spent at Photoshop attempting to wrestle them into suitability. Vintage photos from Ballyjamesduff were cleaned up and tinted. Current photos of Ireland were added, as well as all sorts of pictures that almost fit. All the photos of Percy that we could find in a google search are there and, of course, during and after the song are paintings by the artist himself. Hope you enjoy them! More Percy French can be found in the delightful presentation by the late Brendan O'Dowda on YouTube: Percy French 1854-1920. Sadly it goes out of sync part way through, but still it is grand. Jan plays a vintage suitcase pump organ that we lugged from place to place. It was a hit at venues where electricity was out-of-period like Civil War re-enactments, Victorian events, pirate and renaissance faires,, Old West, gay 90s (1890s!) and the like. This recording was produced by Dennis Gilmore around 2006 or so and is as-live; that is, performed in one take. Music for the "art show" was created on our computer a couple of days before we put this up. The bench shown sports a delightful statute erected of Percy. We erased him for the fun of letting him come back to Ballyjamesduff , like Paddy Reilly. For those of you who know this song, some lines in the last verse were changed as they might offend. Times have changed, thank goodness. Check out our other postings, some from the Janus Company Radio Theatre's musicals, tunes from the Skeleton Crew Pirate Band, additional Irish songs and more. And there's "Dump Trump--A Song for Now," our first posting-- • Dump Trump - Still A Song For Now by Mallo... . Coming soon will be some songs written for the Janus Company Puppet Theatre. Hopefully, if we can wrestle up the equipment, they will feature the puppets "In Person!" Email us at [email protected]. And please LIKE us. Or better, SUBSCRIBE and ring the bell. It will be our secret! And we'd love your comments, pro or con. And any suggestions would be welcome. We've been performing together for something like 47+ years, but this is all new to us.
