First video in a series about some of the plants native to my region that I grow in my garden. Today's plant: Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa) As you can tell from the video, this plant is pretty popular with pollinators when it's blooming. I have quite a bit of it growing in my yard. This plant is useful beyond just the flowers. The seedheads do appear to be a food source for goldfinches and likely other birds/animals. The stems also seem to be very good shelter/possible nest sites for stem-nesting bees. If you have some stems up from last year, and snip them or break them just below the seedhead, you can see they're hollow. I usually do that to a few in springtime to give any bees that use plant stems a place to possibly nest or take shelter. Everything seen in this video was shot in my own yard and garden, a lot of it in 2021. I'll finish by advocating for always planting what's native to your region, and avoiding cultivars or hybrids of native plants, as they may have limited/unknown value to wildlife. There are a lot of good native plant nurseries and landscapers out there, definitely check them out. 🖤 Subscribe! https://bit.ly/2D6sX84 🖤 Instagram! / mynaturehome 🖤 My Blog! https://mynaturehome.wordpress.com/ #summervibes #pollinators #pollinatorgarden #summertime #gardening #wildlifewonder #naturelove #naturelover #bugs #insects #flowergarden #flower
