Why Goku Gives Cell A Senzu Bean and How Did it Cause the Earth to Be Saved? When Goku gave up against Cell, all were shocked, but it was because the more powerful Gohan would fight and destroy Cell. This was Goku's plan, so he figured it was only a fair fight if the less powerful fighter Cell had a senzu to become whole. Goku wanted Gohan to win knowing he'd defeated a full power Cell. It was all for Gohan's legacy. However, Goku miscalculated that Gohan doesn't like fighting and that he couldn't tap into his hidden potential at will without the correct source of anger. It was only when all his friends suffered, Android 16 was destroyed and all looked lost, that Gohan transformed into Super Saiyan 2. So with, or without the Senzu, the situation wasn't really that Bad!
