This is such a simple but critical drill and be done with or without a gun. It can be done during dry firing or with ammunition. The purpose of this drill is to develop good mental picture of good sight alignment and when to squeeze the trigger. Good sight alignment consists of a series of concentric circles with the target in the center of the perfect circles. The attached image shows the elements of a good sight alignment. Look at it often and develop a good mental image of the picture. You will note that the front sight is perfectly centered in the rear sight and the target is centered in the front sight. Simple, right? Practice getting perfect sight alignment with a resting heart rate and then with an elevated heat rates up to race level. You will notice it gets harder and harder to keep good sight alignment the higher your heart rate is. Practice this in the prone position and the standing position. Prior to firing, focus on maintaining a good sight picture while maintain breathing and trigger control. It will be much harder standing. Train your brain to know subconsciously what good sight alignment is. Focus on the attached figure often, daily if you can. When shooting work on breath control, trigger control and good sight alignment. BASELINE SHOOTING SKILLS The skills we are learning are essential to developing good shooting technique, the last thing in a biathlon race you want to think about is every detail of how to shoot. Practicing these drills so you can do them without thinking is critical to having fun in a biathlon race.
