London Overground: Highbury & Islington to West Croydon

In this video, we explore 14.51 km (9.02 miles) of the East London Line by travelling eastwards to Canonbury station, before taking a southwards turn and travelling on the Kingsland Viaduct, which was built in the 1860s, but was disused from 1986 until it was reopened to carry the London Overground in 2010. After leaving Shoreditch High Street station, we dive under east London and traverse on the original section of the East London Line. Beneath the River Thames, we pass through the oldest tunnel on the entire London Overground network, originally opened in 1843. After leaving Surrey Quays station, we continue travelling south and meet up with the Brighton Main Line at New Cross Gate station, before exploring the East London Line Extension to West Croydon station, which opened on 23 May 2010.
