McCumber’s Mill, Shingletown, Shasta County, California

McCumber’s Mill, which first stood a few miles east of Shingletown on Mill Creek, holds a prominent place in the beginnings of the lumber industry in Shasta County. The mill’s history shows us a lot about early sawmills such as where they were located, how they functioned, and how they evolved over time. Additional on-site features also give us a glimpse into what life was like at one of the area’s larger lumber mills. This is just one of the many examples of the history included in the programs, activities, exhibits, tours, and other offerings from the Shasta Historical Society. Check us out!
