Dr. John C. Taylor is a British inventor, entrepreneur, horologist, and philanthropist best known for his extensive research into electric kettles. He started designing the automatic controls for the modern kettle in the late 1960s. These are now used by more than 20% of the world’s population. From 2003-2008 he built the Corpus Clock or Chronophage, one of the most popular attractions in Cambridge. He was awarded an OBE in 2011 for services to business and horology. In this talk, he discusses his eventful life from the early days of his education and first patents, to his experience being an entrepreneur, and giving back to his college by constructing the Corpus Clock in Cambridge. In the end, Dr. Taylor also provides his view on software development.
