In late October of 1981, a shocking display of violence and terror brought international attention to the smallest county in the State of New York, Rockland. In a bizarre attempt to raise funds for their revolutionary efforts, an eclectic mix of radicals, students, and former convicts, would rob the bank at the Nanuet Mall and attempt to evade capture in their effort to get back to their New York City safe house. But, members of the tiny Nyack, New York Police Department had been alerted and were on the look out for the robbers. When they stopped their van near the entrance to the Tappan Zee Bridge, a violent shoot-out erupted, leaving 3 people dead including 2 Nyack policemen, a Brinks guard, and the perpetrators in the hands of the authorities. The Brink’s Robbery, as it came to be known, and the subsequent trial, shocked the Nation and changed the tiny village of Nyack forever.
