The very first full track from our new album ‘Let’s Misbehave’ has just been released — a little glimpse of what’s to come when the full record drops on December 1st. This particular number means a great deal to me. It makes me proud to be British for all the right reasons — inspired by the artistry of pianist, arranger, and truly pioneering bandleader Lew Stone. Long overlooked, Stone was truly one of the architects of what we’d now call pop music, shaping a sophisticated, home-grown sound that could stand proudly beside and admired by America’s big-band greats. Whenever I hear the original version of this, I picture 1930s Jermyn Street in full swing: Lew Stone pulling up in his brand-new Alfa Romeo roadster, Al Bowlly crooning with effortless charm steps from his flat near the Monseigneur, where the band played nightly for London’s high society. It’s a vivid reminder of that golden interwar age For the full album visit the website alexmendham.com #AlexMendhamAndHisOrchestra #LewStone #AlBowlly #BritishJazz #SwingEra #BigBandMusic #NewAlbum #ArtDeco #VintageMusic #GoldenAge #DanceOrchestra
