It was the first video game I ever played back in 1995 when I was two years old. Looking back? Yeah, it's quite awful. The hit detection is horrible, the spikes are seemingly unavoidable, and the camera is way too zoomed in leading to unfair deaths from tiny enemies that blend into the background. Would you believe that between the two 16-bit versions, the Sega Genesis version is actually the superior one? In the SNES version, the sword has an even SHORTER reach by default and the Genesis sword is a sub weapon! It also has the much narrower 256 horizontal resolution as opposed to 320 pixels, though it doesn't help much. The main standout is Matt Furniss' soundtrack, which is absolutely incredible. Shaun Hollingworth's custom FM driver hits way harder, particularly with the Ruined Stables theme. In fact, quite a few tracks from this version (like the jaunty tavern theme and the awesome first boss theme) go unused in the SNES version likely because they sounded so much worse through its lo-fi samples.
