The big difference between flying short-wing birds (Hawks / Buteos etc) and falcons, aside from the obvious, is that flying large long-wings at wild quarry requires more of a tactical approach to setting up for the flush. Often game birds are found in unsuitable areas for flying a large falcon but it doesn't mean we cant try make it work. This requires a strategy and carefully planned approach to best try direct the flush and ensure the safety and best chance of success for the falcon. The attached ride along video illustrates some of those considerations needed when trying to set up your bird for success while caring for its wellbeing. Not only do we need to ensure that the prey is far from cover etc, but be aware of the man made and natural hazards around.
