This piece kept me a little busy this evening :) Playing this piece I felt like playing a mixture of Alkan 2nd Concerto, 20ans Grande Sonate, Liszt Etude 2, Cramer, Medtner Forgotten Melodies and so on. Since I like all of these, it would be an interesting mixture in the end. The Fantaisie Espagnole uses a lot of standard techniques from that time, although 1861 (around that probably composed?) is a little later than the virtuoso peak represented by Liszt etudes and such. The structure is noteworthy. After a an introduction, the piece picks up pace in a Liszt style (2nd liszt etude...) manner, but stops in FFF in a low a octave (do I have to mention it is FUN playing that?) and the tempo is reduced again. If the chords were a bit weirder, we are immediately at Prokofiev 2nd piano concerto area here. A beautiful moment is when the theme in A Major sets in., If you saw my video L´enchanteresse you will notice a quite similar theme near the end. Not much is happening, but still the flow is just beautiful. The transition element to the triplet part is I think a one to one copy from Alkans first Concerto da camera. The triplet part is a bit boring and nasty, but not too difficult. I think it is quite typical for 1850´s+ at that time to use such elements. Interesting to me is the fact that when the repeated notes appear, Ravina didn`t continue with that pattern. Of course Alkan did things like that, probably Ravina knew that. Maybe it would have been just too difficult, for what I actually give Ravina a big plus. Then a couple of other motives appear. Not main melody in sight kinda... really salon piece, really fun to play. Hope you enjoy! The score: https://imslp.org/wiki/Havaneras%2C_O...) My twitch(live music making): / symplektomorph
