It's the height of rush hour on a weekday evening throughout BART, as a 10-car 24th Street train makes a special termination at 24th Street Mission Station in San Francisco. This is the first time since the transit agency's opening in September 1972 this peak-hour ride has even been recorded. 24th Street trains appear just twice every weekday during the evenings exclusively on the Pittsburg/Bay Point-SFO line, as supplements to the usual 15-minute gap between San Francisco Airport trains. Both trains begin the evening commute as San Francisco/Concord destinations at the top of the 4pm hour in Daly City, then become San Francisco/24th Street trains, upon termination at Concord Station around 5pm. After a brief stay later at 24th Street Mission Station, both trains turn around for trips back to Eastern Contra Costa County and Pittsburg/Bay Point Station. 24th Street Mission is the second of two Mission District stops -- and sixth of eight stations overall -- in "The City by the Bay" for all trains coming from the East Bay.
