Cuchillo-Bayoneta (2da versión) para Carabina de Caballería MAUSER "Modelo Argentino 1891"/Knife-Bayonet (2nd version) for MAUSER Cavalry Carbine "Modelo Argentino 1891" It´s considered the first production bayonet designed and manufactured in Argentina by the private company J.C. SUAREZ y Cia, possibily during the 1930s (when I talk about production bayonet is because there are backgrounds of some experimental bayonets manufactured in Argentina although in small amounts; and when I refer to a private company is because the Saber-Bayonets for MAUSER Rifle ModArg09 (abbreviation of "Modelo Argentino 1909") 3rd and 4th version were manufactured in Argentina by AAMZ (Arsenal Artillería de Marina Zarate) and DGFM-FMAP (Dirección General de Fabricaciones Militares-Fábrica Militar de Armas Portátiles "Domingo Matheu"); please don´t confuse with the Saber-Bayonets MAUSER ModArg09 1st and 2nd version manufactured by Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co, Solingen (Germany). This bayonet has an appearance so similar to a combat knife, design that have been working in Europe almost ending 19th century; mostly Germany with versions for the Gewehr 98, which the best known is the Seitengewehr 84/98 that served in WWI, and in WWII accompanied the K98 (Karabiner 98). Features: carbon steel blade of great quality and design, it shows an decrease in its heigth from the ricasso till the tip, even in its thickness is also observed such decrease, however doesn´t lose any of its original hardiness (stains on the blade aren´t oxide but it´s due to time passage). Steel crossguard with a half section ring with flat base to upwards and a semicircular hole to set in it the frontal hitch guide from the carbine forward stock. Its half quillion is directed towards back to protect the hand while holds the bayonet in ocassions that is used as combat knife. It´s remarkable its hilt with wooden grips plus a central supplement forming an ergonomical block appearance (notice the tang going through all the extension). The old-design adjustment spring (that catch the carbine guide) is sturdy and effective. Also worth noting is the brass block that forms the pommel giving it a touch of quality, beauty and distinction. Watching the steel scabbard it has the stud to catch the frog, and this example has not be completely painted (I don´t know why). Blade length 266,5 mm (10,49"), hilt length included crossguard 116,5 mm (4,59"), overall length included scabbard 405 mm (15,95"). Its unique and main brands are: at left side ricasso the word INDUSTRIA making a top arc, ARGENTINA in a center line and J.C. SUAREZ y CIA forming a bottom arc; right side ricasso the Argentine Shield and letters E.A. (Ejército Argentino = Argentine Army). Always remember that Cavalry Carbines "ModArg91" (abbreviation of "Modelo Argentino 1891") were not originally provided with attaching systems for bayonets, for that reason, time later they were modified to carry them; and years later this same bayonet was also used for the Ballester Rigaud semiautomatic Carbine caliber 9 x 19 mm belonging to HAFDASA (Hispano Argentina Fábrica De Automóviles Sociedad Anónima). Ending this video, I show you a quick comparison between the Knife-Bayonet 1st version (also for MAUSER Cavalry Carbine ModArg91, but really it´s a modification based on the Saber-Bayonet for the Remington rifle "Modelo Argentino 1879" -a.k.a "Remington Patria"-) and this 2nd version with exclusive design and manufacture.
