Check out my video where ALL religious groups are united! -- • Which RELIGIOUS GROUP is the strongest in ... Since the earliest days of the ministry of the Church, there have been disagreements as to practices and doctrine. Between the Arianists, Chalcedonians, Manicheans, etc. the Church's would mend these schisms (relatively) during the time of the Roman Empire. The biggest rift between Christians would occur during the early medieval period, where the Eastern (Orthodox) and Western (Catholic) would split in the Great Schism. This rift largely occurred because of an interpretation of the Bible in where the successor to St Peter, the Bishop of Rome / the Pope, was said to have authority over the patriarchs of Jerusalem, Antioch, Alexandria, and Constantinople. This would not be accepted by the Eastern Christians, in which housed the other four bishops, but most Christians in the West supported the Popes authority. This schism would be largely responsible for the breakdown in relations between Western and Eastern Europe, who now considered themselves spiritual competitors, and would significantly hamper the way in which each group sent support to each other in regards to bigger threats. Sometimes these differences were overcome, such as with Western Crusaders being sent to the East to support the Byzantine Empire, but sometimes these rifts would linger, such as the successful crusader states in the Levant refusing to yield their reconquered territory to Byzantium, and instead forging their own Kingdoms in the East. This video explores the idea if all Christians had set aside their differences and decided to unite their realms in response to the greater threats to their religion as a whole.
