"INVENTING TELEVISION" as told by those who pioneered the engineering, the programming and the finance in the first half of the twentieth century. From John Logie Baird's initial achievement of practical TV in October 1925, through Zworykin's invention of the iconoscope camera tube, the first electronic TV service from London (Nov. 1936) and test transmissions from New York (April 1936). Includes the television pioneers Ben Clapp, Herbert Ives, Vladimir Zworykin, Tony Bridgewater, Jasmine Bligh, Leslie Mitchell, Elizabeth Cowell, David Sarnoff and others. Much of the equipment used for the BBC's 30-line broadcasts on medium wave (1929 - 1935) is demonstrated, and examples of key camera tube developments will be seen. The first reception of British electronic TV across the Atlantic (RCA, Riverhead, NY, November 1938), and the first electronic TV test transmission by RCA from the Empire State Building in April 1936 will be seen. I also demonstrate my own reproduction of Baird's original TV system, which I reconstructed for the ACMI in January 2009. Sincere acknowledgement to the "Free The Kinescopes" youtube channel for some of this material, which has been enhanced and filtered here in definition, in contrast and in audio quality.
