The cemetery where Elvis Presley's twin Jesse Garon and Great Uncle Noah Presley are buried -Priceville. TIMESTAMP 0:00 Tupelo Birthplace 0:40 Priceville Cemetery 1:22 Jesse Garon 'grave' 2:27 Noah Presley grave and story 5:24 Presley graves 6:36 Outro I go to Priceville Cemetery to where many believe Elvis brother Jesse is buried (but probably not) and where Great Uncle Noah Presley is buried. Noah Presley was the first Presley to move to East Tupelo from Itawamba County , closely followed by Elvis' grandfather Jessie. One theory of Noah moving was to avoid the draft as he had children, and in those days you could buy yourself out of the draft. Noah's father was Tom Hussey, whose family were prominent members of the East Tupelo community. He could have paid for Noah not to be drafted but he would have to live close by - hence Noah's move to E Tupelo. Take a look at our other travel content at: @OceanHops Sources of information have been gathered since I was 12 years old!! Some (but not all) sources include books by Peter Guralnick, Ernst Jorgensen, Pal Granlund, David English, Erik Lorentzen, Alan Hanson, Paul Richardson and Keith Flynn. Websites include elvisinfonet.com, elvis.com/au, historic-memphis.com, elvisconcerts.com, cinematreasures.org and the fascinating stories and information contributed by so many to the sites, and magazines Elvis The Man and His Music and Essential Elvis. Also the Memphis locations books Elvis - Memphis Style by Mike Freeman and Follow Me To Memphis by Andrew Hearn. So many more over the years on TV documentaries (although many need better researchers), and VHS (!!), and DVD releases. So it was here on January 8 1935 at 25 to 5 in the early hours of the morning that Elvis Aaron Presley was born in this very house.Thirty-five minutes before Gladys had given birth to another child, who was stillborn, that they named Jesse Garon and buried out buried up in Priceville Cemetery in an unmarked grave. So here we are in Priceville Cemetery. and you will find the final resting places of some of the Presley family. you won't find is the grave of Elvis's twin brother Jesse Garon. Jesse Garon Presley January 8 1935. The common misconception is of course because this was an unmarked grave here and it's right next to Noah Presley. But Noah Presley was Jessie Presley's older brother and at one point in 1937 and 38 was actually the mayor of East Tupelo. He was the first one to leave - the first of the Presley children, Rosella Presley's children to leave Itawamba County when he came over here. Many stories of why Noah Presley would move but the most common theory there is that his father was actually Tom Hussey and the Hussey family was a prominent family in Tupelo - one of the richest families in Tupelo - and one way to get out of the draft back in those days was basically to buy your way out of it and certainly the Hussey family would have had the money and Noah Presley would have had to have moved and been in the same vicinity as his father, like I said, believed to be Tom Hussey. And that's why he came to Tupelo but of course that is a theory rather than fact. Jessie Dee followed shortly after, that's a fact with his wife Minnie Mae, or 'Dodger', they moved from their home where Vernon was born north of Fulton and came here to East Tupelo. So Noah Presley was a quite a prominent member of the East Tupelo community actually, before before East Tupelo was incorporated into Tupelo itself and like I said he was mayor in 37 / 38. He had a grocery store down on Main Street in East Tupelo and he was also he was also the bus driver for the, the school bus driver, so he would have taken Elvis to school, maybe even possibly picking him up from downtown Tupelo, from Mill Town, and bringing him back to East Tupelo Consolidated. But another function Noah Presley was known to carry out using the school bus was to actually ferry Gladys and Elvis occasionally up to Parchman Penitentiary to visit Vernon when he was incarcerated there in 1938. So this is Susan Presley died in 1939. She was Noah Presley's first wife. This is Sedera Presley which I believe was Noah and Susan's daughter. I'll have to double-check that. But because these three Presleys are here that's the assumption that that unmarked grave that is now marked but that wasn't there of course at the time when Jesse died. So Jesse's in here somewhere but even the Presley family don't know where. Okay so that's our visit to Priceville.
