This ramp-up, however, means that there's some delay in the lamp reaching full brightness. With an electronic programmed rapid start ballast, you have a more calculated ramp-up, making it even better for the lamps than the magnetic style. It can also be used with occupancy / vacancy sensors. As the name suggests, an electronic instant start ballast gives you instant light when you hit the switch. However, this stresses lamps more and shortens their lives. It also voids lamp warranties and cannot be used with occupancy / vacancy sensors.
