Trump launches massive strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen

President Trump has ordered a series of large-scale airstrikes in what he said was a response to attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels on ships in the Red Sea. The air and naval strikes marked the beginning of a new offensive against the militants, one that was also designed as a show of force to Iran as Trump seeks a nuclear deal with the country’s leadership. “Our brave Warfighters are right now carrying out aerial attacks on the terrorists’ bases, leaders, and missile defenses to protect American shipping, air and naval assets, and to restore Navigational Freedom,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “No terrorist force will stop American commercial and naval vessels from freely sailing the Waterways of the World.” The Houthis, he said, had “waged an unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence and terrorism against American, and other, ships, aircraft and drones”, adding that Iran would be held “fully accountable” for the militants’ actions.
