This online roundtable was held in honour and memory of Emma Hutchison on 5 June 2025. It was organised and held by the Theory Section of the International Studies Association (ISA). Description by ISA: Despite its centrality to world politics, emotions were rarely acknowledged as a significant point of engagement and theorization in the discipline of International Relations. That begin to change with the pioneering work of scholars such as Emma Hutchison whose book Affective Communities in World Politics: Collective Emotions After Trauma was awarded the best book prize by the ISA Theory Section in 2017. In this webinar dedicated to the memory of Dr. Hutchison, contributors will engage with Dr. Hutchison’s work and reflect upon the promises and challenges posed by theorizing emotions in world politics. CHAIR: Asli Calkivik (Istanbul Technical University). PRESENTERS: Annette Freyberg-Inan (University of Amsterdam), Roland Bleiker (The University of Queensland), and Jessica Auchter (Laval University). APPEARANCE BY: Zaynab El Bernoussi (The Africa Institute).
