Steam distillation is one of the most do-able chemical experiments at home. Plant oils like the lemon essential oil not only produces good scent, but it also provides a number of health benefits. This particular steam distillation experiment is done also to demonstrate the use of Ethanol as solvent, instead of N-Hexane. N-Hexane is known to be the most widely used solvent for steam distillation, but some studies suggest similar results when Ethanol is used.
