Earlier you decandle, you get longer needles and longer internodes. The later you decandle, the shorter your needles and internodes will be. Bud selection and fertilize: Mid October - end of November Once buds open up and harden off(needles are hard and pokey). You then select 2 buds that are similar in size relative to the tree.
