PATREON: / exploreoregon FACEBOOK PAGE: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?... INSTAGRAM: / pdxfilmexplorer Welcome back to a fresh installment of Portland: Then and Now. For this one I visited the Rose Quarter and the area immediately surrounding it to compare a collection of images from before the construction of the Memorial Coliseum to how everything looks there today. I also take some time to discuss the history of the area (something I hope to interject a little more into these types of videos). Prior to the start of the Memorial Coliseum's construction in the late 1950s this was almost entirely a residential area, considered the southern portion of the Albina area. When other options for the coliseum, including one in downtown and one out at Delta Park, never materialized this somewhat of a dark horse location was ultimately decided on, leading to many people losing their homes by force.
